Below, I have formatted my chosen photographs into looking like the covers for my chosen publication; Men's Health magazine. Each photo has been given its own front cover for the magazine, each with its own distinctive look. All of these designs were made using Adobe Photoshop.
MAGAZINE VARIANT COVER 1
All five of my designs are meant to appear like authentic Men's health magazine covers. For my first magazine cover I wanted to create something that looked completely professional and legitimate. I wanted my design that to retain the level of quality that the average person would expect from a Men's Health magazine cover. I goal was to give this design cover a sleek and stylish look with its colour palette. I have also deliberately used fonts that are very similar to the fonts used in the actual magazine covers in order to achieve the level of authenticity that I am going for with all of these designs.
MAGAZINE VARIANT COVER 2
For my second magazine cover I wanted to give it more of a winter theme in order to create a variety between each of my covers. The colours are more muted and subtle in this design so as to convey the more cold vibe that Im going for. The fonts are more bold and simple as well, whilst still appearing like legitimate fonts that you would see in a Men's Health magazine cover. The fonts that I chose were all sans serif, by having a lot of bold fonts I was able to convey a sense of strength and masculinity to the design which easily fits with the themes that are represented in a Men's Health magazine. The model is also a lot more desaturated in order to blend in with the surrounding cover and colour scheme.
MAGAZINE VARIANT COVER 3
With this magazine cover I wanted to convey a strong sense of summer and the heat of working out. The colour chosen was red, a very vivid and strong colour which connotes passion, strength, power and determination. So it really matches the content of the magazine and represents. The model from the photograph is also much more saturated in this photo in order to ad to the vibrancy of this particular design.
MAGAZINE VARIANT COVER 4
With this design I decided to do something different and made the image black and white for this design. This was because I wanted to continue in being consistent in my authenticity for these designs. A lot of Men's Health magazine covers have the images of their models in black and white so I thought it made sense to experiment with that in this design.
MAGAZINE VARIANT COVER 5
The goal of this last design was to really get the typography and text right, I wanted it to all look legitimate in its appearance but also its context. I thought that it was important for me to have the text look like something you would actually see in a Men's Health cover and be contextually accurate for the theme of the magazine. The use of a serif, bold, impact-like font, along with the uppercase, provides the magazine cover with a reļ¬ned touch to enhance the quality of the content.
